Suspendisse dapibus elementum quam, vel semper mi tempus ac. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Greenpeace has said it\u2019s suing the European Union\u2019s executive over its decision to grant some gas and nuclear power stations a \u201cfake\u201d green label under EU sustainable finance rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Four other environmental groups &#8211; Transport &amp; Environment, WWF, ClientEarth and BUND &#8211; are also objecting to the inclusion of gas in the EU\u2019s so-called taxonomy. They said the cases will be filed at the EU\u2019s General Court on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPolluters are already using this fake label to siphon green finance away from where it\u2019s needed,\u201d said Ariadna Rodrigo, EU sustainable finance campaigner at Greenpeace. By rejecting the European Commission\u2019s \u201cdishonest attempt to greenwash gas and nuclear, the court can give the EU a fighting chance of reaching the finish line.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The taxonomy is a list of economic activities, from car manufacturing to IT, that are in line with the bloc\u2019s legally-binding goal to be climate neutral by the middle of the century. The aim is to encourage investments into those sectors in order to spur the transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The inclusion of gas has been particularly controversial because burning the fuel emits carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, albeit less than coal. Activists say the extra investments in gas infrastructure could be in breach of the EU\u2019s climate goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Brussels-based Commission said it\u2019s taken note of the lawsuits, but \u201cwould not comment on the substance of the case before EU court judgments are delivered.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-4 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.
