Ubiquiti Networks has updated its lineup storage systems. In addition to the desktop devices UNAS 2 and UNAS 4, there are the new rackmount NAS models called the UNAS Pro, UNAS Pro 4 and UNAS Pro 8.
Ubiquiti has officially announced the UNAS 2. This network-attached storage device has space for two 3.5-inch hard drives that are inserted into the case from the bottom and connect to the network via 2.5GbE. The NAS system can also be powered by PoE++ via the 2.5GbE port, so a power adapter isn’t always necessary. Either way, Ubiquiti includes one in the box. The new NAS also supports SMB/CIFS and NFS for external access.
Thanks to a USB-C port with 5Gbps, external storage devices can also be connected, as long as they are formatted in FAT32, exFAT, NTFS or EXT4. In typical Ubiquiti fashion, there’s also a small status display on the front. As an affordable entry-level NAS, the UNAS 2 does not support hot-swapping, which would be difficult with this form factor anyway. Disk encryption is not supported either. Ubiquiti points to the more expensive UNAS Pro models for users who need these features. The UNAS 2 is available for purchase and costs about $199 at the brand’s official online store.
For those who need more space, the UNAS 4 is an alternative with four bays and two M.2 SSD slots, all of which are directly accessible from the rear. Unfortunately, there is no FAQ for the UNAS 4 available yet. The power consumption is significantly higher at 90 watts, so it requires a PoE+++ switch or the included PoE power adapter. The Ubiquiti UNAS 4 can’t be ordered, but the price has already been set at $379.
Ubiquiti has also introduced new rack NAS. In addition to the UNAS Pro 8, there are two interesting models for smaller 19-inch racks. For example, the UNAS Pro offers seven bays in a 2U form factor but only requires a mounting depth of about 13 inches or 33cm (without the power cable). This is appealing for network cabinets.
The UNAS Pro 4 needs a bit more space at 15.7 inches or 40cm, but it only requires 1U of height. This model has space for four 3.5-inch hard drives. The prices for the rackmount NAS devices range from $499 to $799. Only the UNAS Pro with seven bays is currently available for purchase. The other models will follow in the fourth quarter of 2025.
